A new map
Buster,
I know this is a very rough picture and I am sure it will need some major refinements. But for discussion purposes I thought it might be a start in our efforts to define a new attendance plan. Someone here said we need to look at the whole district when we propose something. Focusing on just Forrestridge and Montecito will not solve the problems with this proposed map.
Anyway, please take a look and let’s have open and candid conversations about this mockup:

This map is based off of the current middle school attendance zones. I have overlaid some colors to define GENERAL areas of attendance for the new schools. I believe it is a good start, if we only had the numbers to define the plan to present and alternate.
Regards,
Jim

Now if we were only given the numbers to fill in. If anyone has them, please forward.

Sure it's a rough guesstimate, but I think it's a good start. I have wondered why I-35 wasn't a natural dividing line between all the schools as it's pictured on your map. Heck, if the 380 corridor is growing as fast as they say, I bet you could almost shade most areas inside Loop 288 and north of I-35 for DHS. The loss of some of those areas to DHS instead of RHS would most likely be offset at RHS by student growth in Providence, Savannah, Paloma Creek and the other new developments out that way.

What I was trying to convey when I created this was, how can we take the existing 4 middle school zones and colapse them into 3 high school zones with an eye toward all the stated objectives(by the board) and geography. Obviously those middle school zones have to meet the same criteria, correct?
Also why have the majority of the lines stayed static? Only the 380 Corridor and the small change in South Denton? Its almost like there is pressure to keep Denton and Ryan population and boundries as close as possible. Could there be outside pressure asking for these lines to stay untouched?
Take a look at the middle school map and i think you will see what I am trying to address.

Buster -- I heard from a parent who attended Thursday night's meeting that Gene Holloway said that he has the "data" in his office, and that anyone could stop by his office to evaluate it. His office is near the 130 buses parked at Ryan.

Holloway did say that he would work with anyone regarding these numbers. However, I called him and asked for them and he told me that he must get a higher authority to approve. I have never heard back! I wanted to post them for the public to view. Hoping that someone would make some better sense out of all this.
