Is there a federal mandate?
Can someone help clear up the issue relating to a federal mandate concerning the socio economic disadvantaged in our schools? Is there a mandate that requires the DISD to maintain certain percent ratios of socio economic disadvantaged in our schools? Does the percentage in a particular school have to be lower than the district average? I have received numerous conflicting statements regarding this. In addition, is there any mandate relating to balance of the percents?

From what I understand there is NO law to mandate percentages. There is a policy held by the school district, but no law saying they have to.

Why won't anyone come out and say it? Everyone wants to go to a nice brand new high school. Why do the kids in your area deserve it more than any other child in the DHS district? Not every child in the DHS school district is a free-lunch child or dis-advantaged. What makes your situation so special? Lines have to be made.
You happen to be on the very edge of the line. Someone has to be. You don't really care abot the socio economic disadvantaged ratio thing. You just want to go the brand new school and to heck with everybody else.

The mandate everyone is referencing is a court order that was issued a few years ago after the redistricting process. Our district does not have to report back to the court as they are no longer under a court order. The policies are still enforced so as to not come under scrutiny again.

The great thing about all this is we all want what is best for our children. We are a city of caring and loving moms and dads who want the best for our kids. That is not a bad thing! All three schools will end up being phenomenal because number one, our district is committed excellence for all of them. Secondly, the principals at each of these schools are exemplary. The thing that makes our nation so great is that we allow each other to have different opinions. Lets be respectful to each other here!
